Samuel Silver and Bruce Merenstein join the firm as Partners

PHILADELPHIA, PA —Welsh & Recker, historically Philadelphia’s leading white collar defense firm, broadens its reach by adding Samuel W. Silver and Bruce P. Merenstein as partners. Their collective 60 years of trial and appellate experience will deepen Welsh & Recker’s roster of accomplished trial attorneys, cementing the firm’s reputation as Phil­­adelphia’s premiere boutique firm of courtroom lawyers.

Merenstein officially began at Welsh & Recker on May 1and Silver will officially join on June 1. Silver and Merenstein join the firm from Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis in Philadelphia.

Silver has extensive trial experience in both civil and criminal cases, and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is a former chair of Schnader’s Litigation Department. In addition to his broad civil and criminal caseload, which has ranged from toxic torts to corporate disputes and has included representing professional equestrians, his career has featured several prominent pro bono endeavors, including death penalty cases and cases involving claims of wrongful convictions. He is the immediate past president of the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, teaches at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, and regularly serves on the faculty for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. 

Merenstein is the former chair of Schnader’s Appellate Practice Group, and has handled hundreds of appeals in federal and state court. His extensive appellate work and related trial counseling runs the gamut of civil and criminal matters, covering everything from commercial disputes and constitutional litigation to bankruptcy cases and habeas appeals. A former clerk to the late Judge Edward R. Becker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, he also has resolved hundreds of discovery and other protracted disputes in his capacity as a court-appointed special master.
