Lisa Mathewson has focused her practice on defending individuals and corporations in white collar criminal matters since shortly after she entered the practice of law in 1995. In addition to representing clients during investigations, pretrial proceedings and in jury trials, she has also counseled clients on compliance issues. Ms Mathewson’s work has involved all manner of federal and state white collar law, including heavy emphasis on the political corruption prosecutions, securities law, the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act, the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Act, environmental enforcement, trade and embargo enforcement, tax violations, and fraud cases.

Notably, Ms Mathewson has taken such cases to trial before juries in federal court and in administrative proceedings. She is often consulted on complex legal issues by other lawyers and has successfully advanced complex legal positions in a variety of settings.


Some current and past litigation experience representing:

  • A state senator charged with corruption in a federal court jury trial lasting ten weeks.
  • A former investment banker in the municipal securities field in a penalty proceeding before an SEC administrative law judge.
  • A senior employee of Philadelphia City Council charged with corruption in a federal court jury trial.
  • A major pharmaceutical company in an investigation of its marketing practices, with implications under the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act and the False Claims Act.
  • Numerous employees of pharmaceutical companies in civil and criminal investigations of marketing activities.
  • A business owner in an environmental prosecution.
  • A former labor union official in an embezzlement case in federal court.
  • A physician in a case in which he was charged with immigration fraud.
